Somatic Therapy

Your body knows the way through
Your body remembers what your mind forgets.
There’s a saying, “Our issues are in our tissues,” and I think it captures something interesting: how our emotions are energy in motion, and when we bring awareness to the body, that energy can finally move.
Somatic therapy invites you to turn toward those sensations with curiosity, rather than judgment and to listen to what your body has been holding and allow it to complete what was once left unfinished.
When we incorporate the body into the healing process, we transition from insight to integration. You may begin to sense a bit more ease in your body and openness in your heart.

The body is a pathway to healing
I’ve always been drawn to the mind body connection and to how our physical, emotional, and spiritual selves intertwine. Books like Anatomy of the Spirit shaped my belief that the body can be understood as a map of consciousness, where energy and emotion reflect the stories of our lives.
Many healing traditions recognize that we are not only physical beings but also energetic ones. In this view, emotions, thoughts, and experiences move through a subtle system often described as energy centers. When this flow is disrupted, it may show up as tension, fatigue, or emotional heaviness.
Before becoming a therapist, I spent years teaching yoga and Pilates. These practices deepened my understanding of how breath, movement, and awareness can shift the way we relate to ourselves. I am also a certified Holy Fire® Reiki Master Teacher and, when appropriate, may integrate elements of energy awareness, sound, or visualization into sessions.
All of this informs my somatic approach. I believe growth happens through embodiment, attuned awareness, and compassionate attention.

Here’s my approach
With a background in mind-body movement and integrative healing, I bring a grounded and intuitive approach to somatic work. I draw on Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic awareness, imagery, visualization, EFT Tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique), and mindfulness-based practices to support the whole of who you are – mind, body, and spirit.
IFS helps us explore the different “parts” within you – perhaps an anxious part, an inner-child part, a perfectionist, or a part that’s simply tired. Rather than pushing them away, we invite them into awareness. As these inner parts feel understood, the body begins to soften. Regulation becomes possible.
In our work, we practice what I call “name it to tame it.” When we can name what we notice -the flutter in the chest, the knot in the stomach, the part that tightens -something begins to shift. Awareness is the first step in regulation, and somatic therapy supports you in developing that awareness until it becomes second nature.
What can somatic therapy offer?
Clients often describe feeling:
- more grounded and at ease in their bodies
- better able to regulate emotions
- less reactive to stress or triggers
- more transparent about what they think and need
- more connected to their intuition and energy
Somatic therapy is an empowering process that supports reconnecting with your body and its capacity for change.

Your nervous system is talking
The body offers an entry point into how emotions are held and experienced.
As you begin to listen more closely, sensations can shift, energy can move, and places that once felt sticky may begin to change.
If you’re interested in connecting with your body in a new way, I offer a free 20-minute consultation to explore how somatic therapy can support you.
